Code of Conduct – Safe Sport Aligned
Our Commitment
SCAIHL is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and positive environment for everyone involved in our league. This Code of Conduct applies to all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents/guardians, spectators, and administrators, and aligns with Safe Sport principles and the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).
Where It Applies
This Code applies to all SCAIHL activities, including:
Games, practices, meetings, and events
Tournaments, exhibitions, playoffs, and travel
In-person and online interactions connected to the league
Our Shared Values
All participants are expected to:
Treat everyone with dignity and respect
Support fairness, equity, and inclusion
Reject abuse, harassment, bullying, discrimination, and retaliation
Put safety, well-being, and positive sport experiences first
Expected Behaviour
Everyone
Act respectfully and responsibly on and off the floor
Follow league rules, policies, and Safe Sport standards
Avoid behaviour that could cause harm or create unsafe environments
Players
Compete fairly and safely
Respect teammates, opponents, officials, and volunteers
Speak up about unsafe or inappropriate behaviour
Coaches & Team Officials
Lead by example with professionalism and integrity
Prioritize athlete well-being and development
Follow Safe Sport practices when working with minors
Complete required education and screening
Officials
Apply rules fairly and consistently
Communicate respectfully
Parents/Guardians & Spectators
Encourage positive participation and sportsmanship
Respect officials’ and coaches’ decisions
Refrain from abusive or intimidating behaviour
Volunteers & Administrators
Act with honesty, fairness, and accountability
Protect confidentiality and support safe reporting
Unacceptable Behaviour
SCAIHL does not tolerate:
Abuse, harassment, bullying, hazing, threats, or intimidation
Discrimination or offensive conduct
Sexual misconduct or inappropriate behaviour
Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern
Safe Sport Standards
SCAIHL requires:
Adherence to this Code of Conduct
Safe supervision practices for minors (including Rule of Two where applicable)
Completion of required Safe Sport education and background screening
Reporting & Accountability
Anyone may report concerns or violations in good faith
Reports can be made to league-designated contacts or through recognized Safe Sport reporting channels
Confidentiality will be respected, and retaliation will not be tolerated
Consequences
Violations may result in education, warnings, suspension, removal from activities, or referral to external authorities, depending on severity.
Agreement
By participating in SCAIHL, all individuals agree to follow this Code of Conduct and accept accountability for their actions.
Review
This Code will be reviewed annually to ensure continued alignment with Safe Sport standards and best practices.
