COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT
🏒 SOUTH CENTRAL ALBERTA INLINE HOCKEY LEAGUE
Coaches Code of Conduct
Built on Safe Sport. Driven by Leadership. 💚
You are not just registering to run drills and manage a bench. You are stepping into a leadership role that shapes culture, character, and confidence.
At SCAIHL, we are committed to building a league that is safe, inclusive, competitive, and development focused. Safe Sport principles and the Universal Code of Conduct guide us, but culture is created by people. Coaches lead that charge.
💚 Our Promise
We are building an environment where:
- Players feel safe, valued, and supported
- Officials are respected
- Parents feel confident in the leadership of our teams
- Competition is intense but never toxic
- Development comes before ego
This applies everywhere our league lives, on the floor, in the dressing room, at tournaments, and online.
🧭 What We Stand For
As a coach, you agree to:
- Treat every participant with dignity and respect
- Promote fairness, equity, and inclusion
- Reject bullying, harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
- Put athlete safety and well being first, always
We compete hard. We lead with character.
🧑🏫 The Coach Standard
Coaches set the temperature of the team.
By registering, you commit to:
- Leading with professionalism and integrity
- Prioritizing athlete development over winning at all costs
- Modeling calm, respectful behaviour toward officials and opponents
- Creating a positive bench environment
- Following Safe Sport practices when working with minors
- Completing required education and screening
If you are steady, your players are steady. If you are respectful, your team follows.
🚫 What Has No Place Here
There is zero tolerance for:
- Abuse, bullying, hazing, or intimidation
- Drugs and Alcohol
- Discrimination or offensive behaviour
- Sexual misconduct or inappropriate conduct
- Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern
Strong leadership protects the vulnerable. Every time.
🛡️ Safe Sport in Action
SCAIHL requires:
- Adherence to this Code
- Safe supervision practices, including Rule of Two where applicable
- Completion of required Safe Sport education and screening
- Immediate action when concerns arise
If something feels wrong, it should be reported. Concerns raised in good faith will be handled respectfully and confidentially. Retaliation will not be tolerated.
⚖️ Accountability
Violations may result in education, warnings, suspension, removal from league activities, or referral to appropriate authorities depending on severity.
Accountability is not punishment. It protects our players and preserves the integrity of our league.
💚 The Bigger Picture
We are not just running games. We are developing athletes, young leaders, and future officials. We are building trust with families. We are protecting the game.
