Who We Are

The South Central Alberta Inline Hockey League (SCAIHL) is a dynamic, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the excitement, accessibility, and growth of inline hockey throughout South Central Alberta. We foster a love for the game by delivering high-quality programs, events, and development opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels. Through strong community engagement and an inclusive approach, SCAIHL creates a supportive, competitive environment where athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers can thrive. Whether new to the sport or highly experienced, SCAIHL offers opportunities to grow, compete, and connect within a vibrant inline hockey community.


Mission

The South Central Alberta Inline Hockey League (SCAIHL) governs, promotes, and supports minor inline hockey by providing effective league administration, fundraising coordination, game scheduling, referee management, and development opportunities. SCAIHL is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, transparent, and inclusive environment that supports the long-term growth and development of all participants within its boundaries.


Strategic Priorities

1. Community Collaboration and League Unity

Goal: Build strong relationships among clubs, families, and governing bodies to ensure a cohesive league experience.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Collaborate with the Alberta Minor Roller Hockey Association (AMRHA)

  • Improve communication, transparency, and accountability

  • Promote equal opportunity across all communities

  • Encourage clubs to work together to balance team numbers

  • Operate with a league-first mindset rather than individual club interests


2. Coach Development and Education

Goal: Develop confident, knowledgeable, and safety-focused coaches.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Increased access to coach training and development programs

  • Ongoing coaching mentorship, support, and follow-up

  • Emphasis on player safety, respect, and age-appropriate development

  • Encourage creativity, enjoyment, and long-term athlete development


3. Promotion and Growth of Inline Hockey

Goal: Increase participation and awareness through strategic promotion and grassroots initiatives.

Key Focus Areas:

  • School programs, camps, and community outreach

  • League-wide “Try It” days, goalie clinics, and introductory events

  • Promotion prior to registration periods

  • Combination of top-down leadership and grassroots engagement

  • Focus on accessibility and long-term growth


4. Board Development and Succession Planning

Goal: Build a strong, sustainable volunteer leadership structure.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Engage club representatives in league committees

  • Develop future board members through hands-on involvement

  • Establish committees focused on:

    • Coach Development

    • Game Development

    • Mini Tyke Festivals

    • Major Events (e.g., Nationals)

  • Reduce administrative burden on club presidents by sharing responsibilities


5. Governance and Operational Excellence

Goal: Ensure effective governance, clear roles, and efficient league operations.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Clearly defined board roles, responsibilities, and decision-making structures

  • Strong operational procedures and accountability

  • Consistent league-wide standards

  • Development of leadership roles (e.g., Director of Initiatives, Technical Director)

  • Collaborative decision-making across all member clubs


Implementation & Accountability
  • Strategic priorities reviewed regularly by the SCAIHL Board

  • Committees established with clear mandates and executive sponsors

  • Progress tracked through board agendas and annual reporting

  • Continuous improvement through collaboration, evaluation, and feedback
